Am I in control? What if I get emotional?

A common concern people have about trying hypnotherapy is that: “I won't like what my subconscious mind brings up, or that I may get emotional”. Which absolutely makes sense! It can feel daunting to start to delve into our subconscious mind, especially when we (like most of us have been socialised to be) spend a lot of our lives suppressing or avoiding feelings.

Sometimes in a hypnotherapy session, if your body is feeling safe and supported and your subconscious mind feels it may be useful, it may bring up things you thought were long forgotten, or emotions may arise without knowing why. Firstly - everything is welcome in my sessions, all emotions, feelings, expression is encouraged. Secondly - having an element of trust can be really helpful. Trusting that whatever comes up, has come up for a reason. Unconsciously, things stored in your subconscious or in your body may have been influencing how you view and show up in the world today, and by them coming to the surface in session, they can be healed, shifted or processed. But what you do with it is YOUR CHOICE. It may be something you feel ready to explore and work on, or perhaps right now it feels too much and you'd rather focus on something else. Either is completely perfect for what feels right for you in the moment.

So an important reminder - you are always in control in your sessions. I can’t guarantee that there won’t be feelings or memories surface that may feel uncomfortable. But I aim to meet you exactly where you’re at, and that means, if any part of you doesn’t want to proceed, we can stop and/or change what were doing. You will know if and when the time is right. You get to choose! There are lots of tools and processes we can do that can still support you in your goals and where you want to be.

You are in complete control at all times. I have great respect for your body's innate wisdom, and also in trusting that your subconscious mind will only bring up what it is ready to heal and shift, when the time and space feels right for it to do so. And this is where the magic lies - you innately know deep inside, what’s the best thing for you. Sometimes we just have difficultly connecting with that inner knowing and need support and practice to connect!
